Hardly any other term is used more often to describe ordinary and even banal phenomena than art. For the Villa Dreamcatcher in Ronco sopra Ascona, however, any other description would fall short. From the creative inspiration to the meticulous realisation, this building was realised with all consistency and thus accomplished a modern living space that is probably unique in the Locarnese region – and presumably far beyond. The design is impressive in terms of shaping, colouring and rhythm, but also in terms of the materials used, the careful workmanship and the sophisticated functionality. Here, art does not play the role of a supplementary dimension; rather, the structural shell and the furnishings in their entirety prove to be an inhabitable work of art.
Villa Dreamcatcher responds to the spectacular panoramic view with translucent rooms that smoothly merge into the landscape. The continuous window fronts and the glass railings of the terraces allow the light to pass through unhindered and create an impression of floating lightness. Furthermore, the interior is designed with few subdivisions, which is expressed in the availability of spacious surfaces and a particularly generous amount of space.
When talking about a lover’s object, it is understood to mean an attractive property with some shortcomings. On the other hand, the indication can very well be interpreted in the way that the significance of an estate becomes evident only if its peculiarities are appreciated. In this sense, Villa Dreamcatcher is truly a lover’s object. It is more than an interweaving of artistic gestures. Its very essence derives from the balanced connection between conceptual substance and material finalisation. In other words: designing this house was designing a relationship.
